The Real Bank Launches Three Student Competitions

The Real Bank recently launched an On-the-Spot Essay, Painting and Story Telling Contest under its comprehensive Bata, Bata Mag-Impok at Magsinop program. The program enters its fourth year of partnership with the Department of Education.

The contest is open to teams of 8 grade school children from private and public schools in the National Capital Region, Region 4, Region4A, Cebu and Davao. Each team, composed of one essay-writer, one painter and 6 story-telling members will be subjected to rounds of eliminations in the division level leading to their respective regional finals where cash prizes, trophies, medals and certificates are up for grabs.

For the division level, the theme "Ang Pagsisinop at Pag-iimpok ay kayang gawin ng bawat isa" will be observed in the essay, painting and story-telling contests.  Essays of not more than 500 words must be written on the spot in one hour or less.

Painting Contest entries must be executed in a 15x20 illustration board that will be provided by the organizers together with crayons, pastel crayons, pencils and erasers during the competition. Contestants can bring their own art supplies except for ballpens, markers and other ink-based tools.

Story Telling teams on the other hand can bring their own costumes and sets to help them present their “piece” in a one-act play, in mime or with the use of puppets. They will be allowed to bring brown paper bags, scissors, cartolina, manila paper, coloring materials for their props. Participating teams will be given 2 hours to compose their script, make their props and rehearse for their 5-minute presentation.

Schools interested to field their teams can inquire and register with their respective Division Offices.

According to Jose G. Araullo, The Real Bank Chairman of the Board, “We believe that teaching the young the value of savings prepares them well for effective resource management. This skill is a keystone to successful entrepreneurship that in turn, leads to a country's economic gain.

This is how we envision the program beyond its initial objective of advocating thriftiness. Four years of various citations and awards received for the program and we are still thinking of new ways to communicate our message. We have to teach our young how to manage their pesos and centavos. To teach them how to do manage their own money at this point in their lives is to prepare them to better handle their finances as adults, or manage their businesses should they decide to become entrepreneurs.

Communicating the value of savings to children must take on various forms like painting, story-telling or essay writing so they can process the message in their own personal way and communicate that same message to their peers in a much more effective manner. Our fourth-year of advocacy activities under the Bata, Bata Mag-impok at Magsinop Program does just that – impart the message more effectively.”
