IPSTAR Opens its 11th Gateway in
Launches IPSTAR BigSky Broadband Package starting at only US$49/month with Partner ‘WIT’
Manila, Philippines. 7 November, 2008. THAICOM Public Company Limited (SET BKK: THCOM), Asia’s leading commercial satellite operator that created the IPSTAR broadband satellite system, yesterday announced that the company has inaugurated its eleventh IPSTAR Gateway in Manila. During the opening ceremony at The Peninsula Hotel Manila, THAICOM also launched the new retail hi-speed Internet package called “IPSTAR BigSky” for the Philippine market starting at only US$49 per month.
We are IT Phils., Inc. (WIT), IPSTAR’s partner in the Philippines, will operate the gateway and be among the service providers. In addition to the retail broadband market, IPSTAR will also target government projects, schools, and enterprises. Prior to the launch, WIT has already provided IPSTAR services to schools through IPSTAR’s First Generation service using a conventional satellite to Mindanao and many other areas in the Philippines. With the opening of the IPSTAR Gateway in Manila, existing customers will be transferred to the IPSTAR satellite, which offers greater performance and capacity to accommodate the growing demand for broadband in the country.
Dr. Dumrong Kasemset, Executive Chairman of THAICOM Public Company Limited said, “We are very delighted to officially open our eleventh IPSTAR gateway and our eighth market in Asia-Pacific in the Philippines. This archipelago consisting of over 7,000 islands makes IPSTAR an ideal solution to provide nationwide broadband services. With the launch of the IPSTAR BigSky hi-speed Internet package, Filipinos nationwide now have the opportunity to be connected to broadband, anytime and anywhere. We also look forward to working closely with WIT and other Service Providers in the Philippines to develop and expand the broadband market here.”
Currently, IPSTAR provides full nationwide broadband satellite services in 8 countries with 11 gateways: Australia, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, New Zealand, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines.
