Dell’s Latest Portfolio of 11th- Generation Servers and Workstations Simplify Management, Boost Performance

Enables SMEs to focus on other critical technology operations

Makati City, June 16, 2009 – Challenging business and economic times call for rethinking nearly every aspect of a business, whether it be at a conglomerate or an SME (small and medium-size enterprise). Tough times are therefore an opportunity to streamline processes and structures, and invest in more reliable, flexible and easily manageable technologies.

The global economic challenges confronting companies all over the world resonates even louder in the Philippines, reason why it is even more critical for SMEs on limited capital to ensure that no resource is wasted to keep operations running smoothly.

In response to the challenging business times, Dell launched a portfolio of products and services designed to help growing businesses efficiently live through the IT lifecycle and maximize their most valuable resources: people, time and money. The combination of innovative software and services with next-generation storage and server products, offers customers business solutions that can cut costs, increase efficiency, and seamlessly integrate technology from multiple vendors.

“All enterprises from schools to hospitals to commercial businesses, and even government, are struggling with common issues – keeping costs down while adhering to increasingly stringent security, compliance and environmental regulations,” said Dell (Philippines) Country Manager Barry Bunyi. “And Dell is addressing these concerns by introducing a portfolio of open hardware and software solutions that enables customers, particularly small and medium-size enterprises, to seamlessly and easily integrate technology from multiple vendors so they can better serve their customers and constituencies while keeping costs down.”

For starters, the new 11th Generation PowerEdge servers and Precision workstations, which use Intel’s next generation Xeon processors, give customers phenomenal performance, exceptional management capabilities and thermals that help customers make the most of their IT infrastructure. The new PowerEdge portfolio of servers offers optimal virtualization, system management, and usability capabilities, as embedded in all the servers is the Dell Lifecycle Controller, which delivers integrated manageability from a single access point.

 Servers that serve well

Specifically, Dell M-series blade architecture as having up to 27 percent lower acquisition cost and delivers up to 17 percent lower total cost of ownership (TCO) over five years per rack compared to other brands, based on the SPECpower_ssj2008 benchmark tests performed in March performed by Dell Labs comparing leading vendors.

Another model that offers integrated manageability is the Dell ImageDirect Server, which simplifies transitions and image management for servers. Companies can now create and manage server images and have them factory-installed, abolishing time-consuming manual configuration, reducing deployment and IT staff time by up to 45 percent. Dell ImageDirect rapidly stabilizes new servers with ready-to-deploy configurations and reduces unwanted drift from desired configuration states at the time of deployment.

Workstations and software solutions

The new Dell Precision T7500, T5500 and T3500 tower workstations provide a broad set of ISV (Independent Software Vendor) certifications and are best used by companies in the engineering, media, entertainment and biosciences industries. And with the heightened consciousness for energy-efficient technology, select configurations of the new workstations have also achieved Energy Star 5.0 certification.

The Dell Management Console (DMC), a software solution powered by Altiris from Symantec, integrates systems management tasks across IT environments into a single console. This development empowers IT administrators to focus on other critical technology responsibilities by slashing or completely eliminating manual systems management processes.

Dell also introduced the EqualLogic PS6000 storage arrays that offer higher performance, advanced virtualization abilities and greater value than previous generations. To help SMEs preserve and extend investments, this series integrates into existing EqualLogic storage area networks (SANs) to form a virtualized storage pool. The SAN Headquarters, a central dashboard that monitors performance and events for dozens of PS Series groups, provides more than 10 PB of SAN storage. What’s more, support for SAN Headquarters is available to any EqualLogic customer free of charge.

Coupled with Dell’s New Systems Management Consulting and tools, SMEs can rely on specific data center operation services from server provisioning and maintenance, to availability monitoring and service-level management through asset retirement, enabling enterprise to do more with less.
