PRESS RELEASE CommunicAsia And BroadcastAsia Return To Showcase Digital Convergence Experience MANILA, 8 April 2008 – CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia – Asia’s most established and relevant trade event for the infocomm and media industries – will once again be held in Singapore at Singapore Expo come 17 – 20 June 2008. Reflecting the synergistic trend in the infocomm and digital media industries, CommunicAsia2008 and BroadcastAsia2008 will embrace convergence of the digital multimedia technology and entertainment value chain like never before. Visitors will not only get to see leading-edge enabling technologies and business solutions designed to enhance enterprises’ mobility and users’ lifestyle at the shows, they will also get to meet with representatives from telcos and network operators, ISPs, enterprises, system integrators, broadcasters, post/production studios, animation houses, computer graphics producers, as well as content owners and developers. A truly international event, CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia attracted a total of more than 68,000 attendees last year, 50% of whom were from outside Singapore. The visitors were treated to a wide spectrum of ICT and media innovations, put on display by the over 2,400 exhibiting companies from 65 countries/regions. This year, leading companies will showcase technologies ranging from 3G, LTE, WiMAX, Broadband, FMC, FTTH, NGN, IP Technology, IPTV, Mobile Entertainment, Satellite and Security at CommunicAsia2008. BroadcastAsia2008 will feature some of the hottest media broadcasting technologies in the market, including Broadcasting-to-Handheld, Digital Media Asset Management, Immersive Tech, HD Technology, IPTV, Mobile Entertainment and Professional Audio Technology. At BroadcastAsia, visitors will be treated to the rare appearance of SHV (Super Hi Vision), otherwise known as Ultra High Definition. Showcasing in Asia for the first time, outside Japan, SHV will showcase video format with resolution that is 16 times higher than the existing resolution of HDTV (High Definition TV). The HD Xperience, a complete HD Studio will explain how Media Asset Management (MAM) technology can help broadcasters redesign their workflows to reap the benefits of open standards based production and archiving. Held for the first time at CommunicAsia2008, NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data, will bring a dedicated Location Based Services (LBS) Challenge event to the Asia-Pacific region, and will be announcing the Asia-Pacific winners at CommunicAsia. As the Global LBS Challenge is the premier event in the LBS industry and a global symbol of LBS innovation and opportunity, both visitors and exhibitors from Philippines will stand to benefit from coming to this event as the Philippines are positioning themselves as market leaders and front runners in deploying wireless technology. Supporting the Philippine participation at CommunicAsia are government agencies such as the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines (IECEP), the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT), and Communications Technology and Center for International Trade Expo and Missions (CITEM). Philippine companies such as Mabuhay Satellite Corporation will also be showcasing their products and services at the show. “Being a small satellite operator in an ocean of big players is tough, we need to stand out and make a difference. CommunicAsia is a great venue to do this. The show has given us the exposure and recognition to enable our services to be known. We have been exhibiting in this event for the last 10 years and we will continue to do so”, said Johnson Regalado, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mabuhay Satellite Corporation. From 2005 to 2007, CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia have seen an increase of about 28% in visitors from the Philippines. This is seen as a reflection of continued expansion in the Philippines’ Information and Communications Technology (ICT) market this year, with overall IT spending exceeding the US$2 billion-mark in 2008, reaching US$2.03 billion, according to research company IDC’s forecast. In a recent press release, IDC reported that the need for greater efficiency and productivity will drive companies and individuals in the Philippines to continue investing in business and personal technologies. “We are very excited to be able to bring CommunicAsia and BroadcastAsia to the industry once again,” said Victor Wong, Project Director at show organiser Singapore Exhibition Services (SES). “It is very heartening to know that exhibitors, visitors and delegates alike find the shows relevant and are able to gain valuable in-roads to multiple markets across Asia. Participants have also given us feedback that the event is an ideal launch pad for introducing products and solutions to the regional media.” CommunicAsia, BroadcastAsia, InteractiveDME, EnterpriseIT, CGOverdrive, as well as various inter-government meetings, are part of the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX). imbX is Asia’s largest infocomm and media event that fortifies Singapore’s position as a leading infocomm and media hub. It brings together business leaders, companies and industry professionals to showcase their latest innovations, network, exchange ideas and tap new markets.
