Autodesk levels up gaming standards in Asia Culminates 2009 Games Super User Tour in Manila
MANILA, Philippines, 28 May 2009 – Filipino game-makers snatched a glimpse behind massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) front door as Autodesk, a world leader in 2D and 3D design, brought to the Philippines, games industry veteran Mythic Entertainment for the culmination of Games Super User Tour 2009. The event supported by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines (GDAP) gathered the country’s top game developers, as it also did during its stops in Taipei, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul. "Game development is one of the top rising industries in the Philippines, and this event by Autodesk broadens the exposure of Filipino game developers to world-class talent and tools. We're very excited to have such an accomplished game developer as Matt Shaw here in the Philippines, talking about his experiences in developing Warhammer Online using Autodesk software", said Gabby Dizon, president of GDAP. For its part, Autodesk through its country manager in the Philippines, Teddy Tiu said, “We are thrilled by the resounding response from participating game developers. With this, we hope to inspire and challenge these young talents to up the notch and improve the gameplay of the games they make”. “Little by little, Filipino-made games are reaching par with global standards. We hope not far from now, this segment flourishes to emerge as steady revenue generator for our economy”, adds Tiu. Case in example is ANINO Games, likewise presented as keynote speaker with Founder and President Niel Dagondon narrating their version of a garage story. Aptly titled “Out of the Shadows”, Dagondon tracked back the makings of the first and largest game development company in the Philippines. Industry’s best All ears were on Matt Shaw, chief technology officer of Mythic Entertainment, as he shared creative insights and business perspectives in managing and producing world class online games.
“Many companies have started making massively multiplayer online (MMO) games but never launched, most even failed. Developing MMOs is a multi-year endeavor to create a huge explorable world”, said Shaw. He added, “Aside from creativity, it is imperative that you equip yourselves with technology that allows the entire time to integrate each work onto an inter-operable pipeline. In our case, we found Autodesk 3ds Max and Autodesk Kynapse of best fit, most especially for large scale projects such as our most recent, Warhammer® Online: Age of Reckoning.” |
