Asian Poker Tour Announces Poker Events for 2008

Makes Manila its First Stop with $1 Million Prize Pool Guaranteed

Manila, Philippines, April 18, 2008 The Asian Poker Tour (www.asianpt.com) has announced its 2008 calendar with four events, each with a guaranteed prize pool of US$1 Million, and will debut this year’s tour in Manila.

Set to capture the imagination of the poker world and make the APT bigger and better than ever, the Tour kicks off in the Philippines on May 27 to June 1. It will be followed by similar events in Macau, Asia’s gambling capital; South Korea; and Singapore.

The Asian Poker Tour will be the biggest poker event to hit Asia, as an estimated 400 poker players from all over the world will compete for the upper hand and a whopping prize pool of US$ 1,000,000 – the highest guaranteed prize pool offered in Asia to date. There will also be internet qualifiers which will ensure that online players can rub shoulders with some of the world’s leading poker pros at each live tournament.

The Tour is generating such a buzz that the leading names and organizations in the world of poker have already taken notice. Some of the world’s biggest online poker rooms, including PartyPoker.com and PKR, have given the event their backing by providing online satellites to the Asian Poker Tour. iPoker, the world’s largest poker network, has also shown its support. iPoker member sites such as DafaPoker, Tila Poker, Titan Poker, BetFred, VC Poker and ChiliPoker are running online satellite tournaments for seats at the Manila event.

To participate in this prestigious tournament, players need to pay the buy-in of US$ 2,500 or win a seat for as low as US$ 2.20 by competing in the many satellite events taking place online throughout the World.

Set over a period of six days of no-holds barred Texas Hold’em, the Philippine leg will also feature a number of US$300 Freezeout tournaments and cash games. In addition, the event will host Asia’s first-ever 13 Card Poker Tournament.

The Asian Poker Tour will also take on a humanitarian side, inviting ten of the country’s biggest celebrities to play poker for the winning pot of Php 400,000. The prize money will be donated to the charity of their choice.

To ensure a smooth and professional event, none other than top-notch tournament director Matt Savage will direct this fun-filled, excitement-packed, poker event of the year. Savage is known for his expertise in directing international tournaments such as the World Series of Poker (WSOP) and is the founder of the Tournament Directors Association (TDA).

APT Director Chris Parker said: “The Asian Poker Tour (APT) will definitely be a top-class brand. This is such an exciting time for poker players in Asia and we feel that with our expertise and skill, we can make the APT a bigger and better series of events each year. From the four events that will take place this year, the APT plans to expand to a total of six events in 2009. We are continually working to set up some of the world’s most exciting and prestigious poker tournaments.”

After the Manila leg, watch out for the APT as it proceeds to Macau for an equally-exciting tour before heading off to South Korea and Singapore.
